Pro-Bike Policy
PeopleForBikes creates a prominent place for bikes in transportation, mobility and recreation decisions at all levels of government. We ensure that bikes are prioritized and positioned as a real solution to improve Americans’ health, connect communities, boost local and state economies, strengthen our nation and protect our planet.

Sustainability Working Group
While we know that bikes can play a crucial role in combating climate change, we also know the manufacturing of bikes isn’t without its own climate impact. We created the Sustainability Working Group (SWG) to help the bike industry do its part for the planet by making its supply chain more sustainable.

The SWG includes employees from more than 35 bike companies putting competition aside and working for the greater good of the bike industry. The group works to advance tactical initiatives to achieve environmental, health and corporate sustainability goals of the bike industry and its partners. The SWG currently works in four tracks, including one focused on addressing the climate crisis by supporting companies to minimize the climate impact associated with making and selling bicycles.

Climate Action Corps
Launched in January 2020, the Outdoor Industry Association’s Climate Action Corps supports and enables brands, retailers, manufacturers and suppliers to measure their greenhouse gas emissions, set reduction targets, develop company-specific reduction plans and publicly share their progress annually. PeopleForBikes became the first organization to partner with the Corps, giving PeopleForBikes member companies access to exclusive resources — including the Climate Action Corps Guidebook, on-demand webinars, free online workshops and other community learning opportunities as well as opportunities to participate in Climate Action Corps Impact CoLab projects to drive greenhouse gas reductions and help members meet their carbon reduction targets in less time and for less cost and effort than doing it alone.

More than 100 outdoor and bike companies have joined the Corps since it launched. In June of 2021, the group released its first annual Impact Report and member companies published progress reports. At the same time, the Corps announced its new bold aspiration to become the world’s first climate positive industry by 2030.

Electric Bicycles
PeopleForBikes sees electric bicycles playing a key role in helping solve many of the issues facing America today, including the climate crisis. Electric bicycles offer a clean, emissionless and competitive transportation option for citizens and businesses across the U.S.

Whether they are used by individual commuters, for commercial freight operations or for recreation, electric bicycles reduce congestion in urban settings while simultaneously improving air quality. PeopleForBikes works at all levels of government to prioritize and include e-bikes as a meaningful part of any effort, policy or program to reduce carbon emissions within the transportation sector.
